I couldn't wait for tomorrow to come to start this challenge!
I just got finished drinking my very first Green Smoothie and damn! that thing was delicious! It they keep coming out like my first one I'm hooked.
I went to the grocery store and bought all of the ingredients I would need to make smoothies for the next three days. The total bill came to 69 CHF which is not a lot considering this is Switzerland and things are expensive. Although, when I move to Florida I won't be surprise if I end up spending a lot there too.
Anyways, I bought spinach, lettuce, frozen blueberries and mixed berries, almonds, coconut milk, dates, tomatoes, celery, basil, mint, etc., etc.
My first smoothie was from the Simple Green Smoothies 5 recipe book. It is called "Berry Protein Bash." I added everything it called for except for the almond milk and almonds, instead I substituted the almond milk for coconut milk. I did this because in order to make almond milk you have to soak almonds for at least 6 hours and then blend with water (I have some almonds soaking now!). I didn't add the almonds because I'm afraid to mess up my blender with hard almonds sooo I'll just wait until I get a nice blender. In this smoothie there is spinach (you don't taste it at all!), almond milk (coconut milk), strawberries (didn't have so substituted for mixed frozen berries), blueberries, and almonds.
You blend the milk and spinach together first, then add everything else. May I say that coconut milk is the BOMB! That stuff is good! It's so thick, creamy, and has just the right amount of sweet!
I'm really proud of myself for making this smoothie and starting this challenge. I was a little hungry before making the smoothie. I had the smoothie at around 6 p.m. and we'll see how long this lasts me. Technically, according to the Clean program I shouldn't have anything else in my stomach until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Your body needs 12 good hours to digest your food and this should happen at night. So, I'll try to not eat anything else today. If anything I'll drink lemon water or have some tea.
Also, while in the grocery store I decided to plant some of my own basil, mint, and alfalfa sprouts. I really like planting things (also therapeutic). So, we'll see when things start poking through the dirt!
Until tomorrow when I'm really supposed to start the challenge......
