Hazelnut Milk!? Clean Challenge-Day 2

I woke up this morning and began with a small glass of almond milk, just because I could!

8:30 AM: I made a blueberry pineapple smoothie. However, I should've added more blueberries because it wasn't sweet enough for me. The recipe called for tomato, lettuce, and celery. I could definitely taste the celery and tomato, but not enough of the blueberry and pineapple. Nevertheless, it was good.

11:30: I'm hungry! I don't want a big meal, just a snack. I feel like my body is absorbing all of the good stuff and wants more, more, more. I just might have to make these snack bits. However, the Clean program says that I should try to reduce the amount of snacking and think about why I'm hungry. Is it because I'm bored? Maybe. Hopefully, next week when I go back to work I won't be so bored and hungry. They also suggest you increase the amount of protein and healthy fats in morning and afternoon shakes. I'm gunna go eat some almonds and walnuts and drink some water. I don't want to have lunch until 1 p.m.

I really hope I'm able to keep up this challenge when I start work again. I'm going to plan out all of my meals for a week, buy "on the go" containers, and make smoothies for the morning the night before. That way I can quickly grab the smoothie, shake it a little and catch the bus. I'll fix lunch as if I'm fixing dinner. All of the lunches suggested by the Clean program can be eaten cold which is good.

I had my lunch at around 2:45pm because I fell asleep (I love being on vacation!) I had leftover Avocado Pineapple Gazpacho. This time it was a little bitter. So I added some honey to sweeten it up. What I really like about it is that you can use a celery stalk as a spoon (until you run out of celery!)

And throughout the day I've been drinking lemon water with mint. It's so nice and refreshing!

Gone in a minute!
I wasn't hungry again until 7:15 p.m. I finished off my 2nd day of the challenge with a banana mixed-berry smoothie with mint, spinach, and lettuce. Yum! I liked this smoothie a lot! I finished it before I knew it!

How I made my hazelnut milk:
 What you will need:
Blender
Container for milk
cheesecloth or anything that you can use to strain out pulp. (I don't have cheesecloth (yet) so I used a never-used-before sock (don't judge me). The sock works just fine and probably better than the cheese cloth because it acts as a straining funnel!)
1/4 cup of hazelnuts (duh!) I started soaking them this morning at around 8 a.m. and they were good to go at 8 p.m., but I think you can soak them for a shorter amount of time. You just wanna make sure they won't get caught up in your blender.
3 cups of water (really, I think this almond/hazelnut/any type of nut milk is just flavored water with nuts)
3  dates (get rid of the seed first!) (I don't like dates by themselves. But they are really good to use in smoothies to sweeten thangs up!)
2 dashes of cinnamon

What to do:
1) Place the hazelnuts, water, dates, and add a dash of cinnamon.
2) Blend for about 1 minute.
3) Take cheesecloth and place over your container.
4) Pour some of the mixture into cloth.
5) Squeeze!
6) Repeat 4 and 5 until you have poured all the milk.
7) Viola! You have hazelnut milk!

Before drying it out.
Now if you wanna through away the pulp I guess that's fine...but I keep it. I put in on a pan and bake it at 150 degrees Celsius for about 10-20 minutes. You want to dry it out and kinda roast it. You wanna keep checking! Keep checking because they can burn easily! Keep checking it and making it less clumpy by using a fork to separate it into smaller, flour like granules. Then you have hazelnut flour to bake with! Once I get enough flour I'll throw it all in the blender one more time just to get it extra fine.
This is actually the almond flour because I burned the hazelnut flour (too busy writing this post! That's why I say check! check! check!)
