12-27-12

Today, I write this:
I woke up this morning with more energy than usual. I think this is because I feel asleep reading, Adulthood Rites by Octavia Butler. I spent the last two hours of my night reading. It was the best feeling ever. I love reading. Especially, science-ficture by Ms. Butler. As always I said thank you for waking up this morning. I then proceeded to feed Teacake and fix myself some breakfast.
I, surprisingly, read the newspaper, but had to stop halfway through an article about ISIS because it was just too depressing. The article read like it was something that could have come from one of Octavia Butler's novels but this was an article based off of true events.
After, eating I decided that in 2015 I want to take two online free classes. I did a search and successfully found, "History of the Slave South" and "Creative Writing." The Slave South class does not start until January 12. I've started the creative writing class today. One of the activities calls for us to write in our diary. So this is what I'm doing.
I've learned a couple of things from the online class so far: 1) the word "blog" came from the words, "web log." Logs were also kept by ship captains to record distance traveled and ports entered. Their logs were not very creative, but it is an example of how the meaning of words can change over time!
